WWII

The WWII games listed here are technical, detailed, and specialized.

Panzer
This is a fast-paced tactical Eastern Front game, similar to the board games on the subject. Features include strict line-of-sight (thus you can hide behind hills and trees), ranged fire, and a wide assortment of hardware. It's not really very accurate, and it's stretching Xconq to use it for a tactical game, but great fun anyway. (panzer.g)
Panzers at Magnuszew
A large panzer scenario based on a Panzerblitz(tm) board game scenario designed by Robert Harmon. (magnuszew.g)
Fall of Cherbourg
This battalion-level scenario covers the American VII Corps drive on Cherbourg during the Normandy campaign. (cherbourg.g, based on ww2-bn.g).
Operation Cobra
This is a reenactment of Operation Cobra, also at the battalion level. This is a very large game that will need considerable memory and time to play. It seems to be very difficult to break out and get to Avranches in the allotted time; the game balance probably needs work. (cobra.g)
Normandy; 6 June 1944
An attempt to re-enact the whole Normandy campaign, from the beach landings on. (At present, this is really only interesting for the initial invasion, since German reinforcement schedule is incomplete.) (normandy.g)
NW Europe Campaign
This game is at the division level, being about the entire "Northwest Europe" campaign. Although it works to land in Normandy, you can try invading anywhere you like. (nw-europe.g)
WWII Europe Jan 42
This is a theater-level simulation of WWII in Europe, starting in January 1942. The Germans are on the ascendant everywhere, the Soviets hard-pressed, and the Americans only just getting involved. The game has a lot of sides; either AIs have to play them or you'll need to round up a bunch of players. Keep an eye on your ground units' supply situation! (ww2-eur-42.g)
WWII Jan 38
WWII Sep 39
WWII Jan 42
These are full global scenarios, using the "WWII Advanced" rules. Can they really be played as games? Probably not, but it's fun to try; and you can always just scroll around and admire it all! (ww2-38.g, ww2-39.g, ww2-42.g)
WWII (Std), Europe Jan 42
WWII (Std), Pacific Dec 41
WWII (Std), World Jan 42
WWII again, but using the unit types and terrain of the standard game, and with only two sides, Axis and Allies. It's not very realistic, but fun nevertheless. (ww2s-eur-42.g, ww2s-pac-41.g, ww2s-42.g)
Flattop Battles
This game is a somewhat abstract version of tactical naval combat. You have a force of carriers and battleships, plus a contingent of smaller vessels, and a similar opposing force somewhere out there. Use your PBYs to find them, before their subs and aircraft get in to sink your capital ships. (flattop.g)
Coral Sea
This is the battle of the Coral Sea, both land and sea, at the operations level. Airplanes are simply part of carriers' combat abilities. (coral-sea.g)
Midway
The Battle of Midway. This is the whole battle at the operations level, including maneuvers in the Aleutians. (midway.g)
Gazala Battles, 1942
The battles around Gazala and Tobruk in North Africa. The Axis is out to capture Tobruk, the British have to block them with a very few units operating behind a belt of minefields. (gazala.g)
